Portuguese students in the Department of Romance Languages had the privilege of receiving Brazilian percussionist Bill Lucas and Brazilian singer Maria Kamila, lead singer of Perrengue’s band, last week to learn about Brazilian rhythms. The article "Processing dissociations between raising and control in Brazilian Portuguese" recently appeared in the First View portion of the Journal of Linguistics. This article was co-published by UGA Department of Linguistics alumnus Dr. Douglas Merchant (PhD, 2019) and Dr. Timothy Gupton. J. Tiegs is currently a lecturer of Spanish in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. She learned Spanish from a young age, prompting her interest in language and her later travels to Spanish-speaking countries. She has spent long periods of time working and/or doing research in Peru and Chile, as well as shorter stays in Costa Rica, Ecuador and Spain.
