Ph D available in: Romance Languages with an emphasis in French Italian Portuguese Hispanic Linguistics Hispanic Studies Requirements Without a minor All 12 courses required in the language of PhD 6 courses must be at the 8000-9000 level (exclusive of 9005, 9000 and 9300) With a minor 8 or 9 of the 12 required in the language of PhD 6 courses must be at the 8000-9000 level (exclusive of 9005, 9000 and 9300) 3 or 4 of the 12 required in the minor field of study. The minor must be a well-defined set of courses either within the department or outside the department. Your advisory committee will work with you to define a minor and the courses you should take. The hours of credit of ROML 8000 level (usually taught in English) which may be taken at the Ph.D. level are limited to 6. ROML 7700 for Teaching assistants (counts as one of the required courses) Demonstrate knowledge of one relevant foreign language (other than English). Demonstrated by either receiving a grade of B or better in a foreign language courses number 2002 or higher, or passing a language examination offered by a language department at UGA. (This may have been satisfied at the M.A. level at the University of Georgia). Students majoring in Hispanic Studies are required to take SPAN 8180, Literary and Cultural Theories and Criticism.
