Join us next week, April 17th, from 5:00 to 7:00 in Gilbert Hall 113, for an Afternoon of Art in Portuguese with MA student Elisa Braga and Dr. Vera Bulla.  Come make your own painting inspired by Monique Malcher's writing.  REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Everybody is welcome! 

Join us for a poetry night! Poets will read in Portuguese or Spanish. English tranlsations will be displayed. 

The event offers an opportunity to reveal the distinct and plural Brazilian regions. From the charms of the beauties of the North to the cultural vibrancy of the Northeast, passing through the exuberance of the Central-West, South, and Southeast, we will explore the geographic, cultural, and linguistic singularities that make each region unique.

Brazilian Portuguese has its own pronunciation, structure, and vocabulary that can be traced back to the influence of African enslavement by colonial Portugal in Brazil. In this workshop, you will learn the specifics of the pronunciation of Brazilian Portuguese while also learning how it came to be and its relation to Afro-Brazilian culture.
