Italian Masculinity and Migration Research Focus of New Faculty Member

A warm welcome to Dr. Lisa Dolasinski! The Department of Romance Languages is happy to have you with us. This profile is part of a series featuring faculty members new to UGA campus in Fall 2022:

Lisa Dolasinski joins the Department of Romance Languages at UGA as Lecturer of Italian after previously holding appointments at SUNY New Paltz, Bucknell University, Dickinson College, and Indiana University. Dr. Dolasinski's teaching and research interests center on contemporary Italian cinema and culture. She has published and designed original courses on the topics of migration and masculinity in Italy. Her refereed journal articles interrogate the fluid sexual and ethnic identities of migrant protagonists and second-generation artists in Italian media. She has also published on representations of old age and aging in Italian film comedies. Her chapter, “Hip-Hop Based Education (HHBE) and Italian Studies: A Culturally Responsive Pedagogy for Teaching Migration and Contemporary Italy,” will appear in the MLA volume Teaching Migration in Literature, Film, and Media (edited by Masha Salazkina and Yumna Siddiqi). Lisa’s most recent article, “‘In Between’ Ethnic Heritage and Italian Identity: The Global Hip-Hop of Mahmood and Ghali” is forthcoming in The Italianist. Lastly, in addition to preparing her first monograph for publication, tentatively titled Screening ‘Sterile Masculinity’: On Male Migrants, Italian Men, and the Future of Italy, Lisa serves as Managing Editor of book and film reviews for the peer-reviewed journal, Gender / Sexuality / Italy.
